Two-part urethanes harden by chemical reaction from the catalyst just as epoxy. Your laquers harden when the carrier (laquer thinner) evaporates out of the finish leaving just the solids on the surface. The urethanes are harder and more durable than laquers although laquers are easier to touch up.
