Wondering if anyone uses an airbrush for applying finish.. I'm starting out and don't have more than one cue at a time. Trying to limit waste. Thanks in advance..

I don't know if anyone has for certain but a very well known top tier builder suggested that to me as a low key startup for finishing. I don't believe he would have suggested it if it wasn't viable.

Of course, air brushes will work fine for spraying finish.

I don't think the spray gun plays as big a role in cue finishes as some of the other things that are taken for granted. The big one is learning. Read about spraying and laying down smooth even coats. Read about adjusting the gun. What the adjustments are and what they do. Those are the things that will help you put on a good finish.

The only issue I see with an airbrush is that they waste a lot of finish. A decent HVLP small gun can be had for around $100. Like a Sharp Finex. That gun will put down a plenty good finish, and because it's HVLP, it will save more finish than what goes on the cue.

I haven't tried it, but if you are starting out and trying to save waste and money, maybe you should consider some of the brush on finishes like Chris Hightower sells. Then you don't need a gun, just a small propane torch to pop the little air bubbles as it dries and turns slowly. I have shot autobody clear through the suction guns and hvlp but it really requires a lot of pressure to properly break it up so it will lay down smooth.

HVLP guns do not require alot of pressure. The turbines(with gravity and forced cups) are around 10-15psi. My Iwata atomizes at 13psi. I'm not sure what you consider high pressure.
