Finishing a shaft

Couple questions for all you makers out there.

When you do your final turning on your shafts, do you immediately put the sealer on, or do you wait a specified amount of time before doing so?

Do you sand first to finish size then apply sealer, or do you seal first, then sand, then seal again and sand?

Curious as to the dif options available in finishing shafts.
