First APA experience

Ok, i had my first nite of APA 9ball league, and well needless to say it was kinda interesting lol.

First off i was appointed team captain, and didnt know who anyone except 1 person, and the team was basically thrown together lol.

Well the second person i knew, she show'd up like 10mins after we started so no biggie.

So Except for me and the girl who i have known for just over a yr, i didnt know how anyone played.

Well first match i throw up this guy Scott who is a 4, and he played good but barely lost like 31-25

next match i put myself up, since i havent played APA before i start as a 4, but shoot like a 6, and the guy i am shooting against is a 3. Well i start out on fire, racking up 20points really fast, and then stupidity hits, and i would make 1 ball and then miss or scratch or hook myself.

Well needless to say i loose. lol

And basically this was how the rest of the nite went, and we lost 75-25 lol.

Now the good part was this new guy Shaun, gets put on my team that nite, and claimed he played 8ball in florida. Well he loses to a 3, 25-7 and i mean he would just try to slam every ball.

Now the girl who i knew, kinda got stuck hard tonight, cuz she had the final match and was going against a 8, and shes a 6, but is more like a solid 5. Well needless to say she lost 65-20.

I mean of course next week i am hoping will be a different story because the new guys will have a rating, and i know now how to place guys against other people.

On my part, i am wondering if this is a common thing for guys who are first time APA players, in 9ball. Cuz after i came out on fire, i just went blaaaaaa, and fell apart.

Anyways i would love to heard these stories :)

Yeah thats called sandbagging!!! LOL :D

Just watch out for the rules dont stop a moving cue ball and dont put your hand in the pocket to get the ball that is a loss of match I believe!

Most of the people in the leagues here dont say anything about putting your hand in the pockets to get the CB.

as for sandbagging, i dont do it, cuz its like once i start to mess around my game goes to crap, so i hafta play straight up all the time, and do my best.

Although now that i think about it, i have heard from a couple guys who got into leagues last yr, who play about the same as me, and they even told me it took them like two weeks to get usta playing APA 9ball.

Just be careful you will always have those rule hounds who dont say anything until the rule will fall into thier favor!! I know there was a whole thread about this but just wanted to let you know!

Perhaps team pressure may have a little to do with your poor performance. Being part of a team adds some additional pressure that sometimes is overlooked.

No, if you put your hand in the pocket when a ball is approaching it, it is assumed the ball would have gone in whether it actually did or not. Therefore if it is the cueball, it is a ball in hand foul not loss of match.

I agree - I just joined an APA 9-ball team for the first time and am going to play in my first match next Monday. I haven't been playing long, and I'm doing pretty well, so I've been nothing but positive about the game. There have of course been days I haven't shot my best, but they didn't really bother me, I guess because they only affected me. Now I'm kind of nervous about doing my best as part of a team!

My advice would be to continue playing as if it's only for you. Otherwise you run the risk of putting too much pressure on yourself. Enjoy it and just know that even the best players in the league have tough streaks where nothing seems to go right. If we were any better than we are, we certainly wouldn't be playing in the APA. Have fun and best of luck.

the same thing happened to me in APA 8-ball years ago. was totally new so i started as a 2 (it was a while back) and the first match i had i ran the table off the break. after that i couldn't make a ball and lost the match. happened 4 weeks in a row. then i started winning. it had been years since i had played but boy did i feel foolish after those first racks were played out and i couldn't hit anymore.
ahh...the good old days :)
