Ok, here is the back story. I have been approached by a young lady to have me build her a cue. She currently plays with a very expensive cue ($2k+). She is tired of worrying about it getting damaged/Stolen and always smelling like cigarette smoke. I cannot blame her.
She wants something different, but not too expensive. We kicked around a few ideas and I suggested maybe a butterfly splice, then showed her a few pics from other cuemakers. Low and behold, she liked it and wants one.
The kicker is that would be my first Butterfly cue. So, I decided to take a test run to work the kinks out. Below is my first effort with a forearm (E.I. rosewood with Paduak and Curly Maple points 2hi/2lo) . I am pretty happy with it, but want to submit it to the more experienced audience for constructive criticism and/or kudos.
What do you like? What should I change in technique or exectution?
I think I am going to finish this one into a cue. I am thinking a curly maple Handle cored with PH to add some weight and matching the butterflys in the the butt sleeve. I also might just put alternating paduak and CM boxes in the butt sleeve. Let me know what you guys think!
