A few week ago a new club opened near where I live with 7 9ft pool tables, 2 snooker tables and one 10ft heated carom table.
So I finally got to try this game for the first time ever. Me and my pool playing friends came over, I suggested that we start with straight rail, because we might frustrate ourselves with 3C. But they said "nobody's watching us, let's try the real game, straight rail sounds too easy anyway". I said OK, let's start.
3 of us played, no points scored in first inning as expected. On my second try I scored my first ever 3C point. I was over the moon. I even "called" my exact move. Second attempt...another score!!!
I thought to myself "this can't be right, the game has to be more difficult than that". And then reality struck in...for the next 20 innings or so nothing, no points, just a few near misses.
Ok, so we reverted to "easy" straight rail. Turned out not to be easy at all. Those big heavy carom balls react very differently to pool balls upon contact. Very differently. And heated cloth is so fast...the balls just keep on rolling with virtually no resistance! Even the fastest pool tables are a turtle compared to this one. We had good fun.
All in all, I think of all cuesport games, this one requires most human effort to learn. Of all pool players, maybe only very patient one pocket players could adapt.
I think I'll become a member of that club. There I'll play only snooker and carom twice a week or so. Majority of time I will still spend in my own club playing regular pool. Can't wait 'till I recieve my membership card...
