First problem with a Bulletproof Recoil tip?

I was practicing a couple of days ago and noticed I could not cue as low as I thought I should be able to, I pulled out the old training ball and sure enough, I could not even get close to the accepted limit on the cueball, was it the tip? It sure was.... but it wasn't the tips fault, it was the idiot who shaped the tip, and that was me, last night I pulled out the Recoil tip tool and shaped it to a PROPER nickel radius, it sure looked kind of flat to me but amazingly it played flawlessly, no problem with going way lower on the cueball, I have heard the tip pik is a great tool for these tips, I haven't used one of those in forever, I was so sure my way of taking care of my tip was better so I never even tried one, the one I have doesn't have those sharp little pins, mine looks like a more aggressive file, what have I got to lose? I tapped the tip with it, played for a couple of hours and it held chalk better than it ever has, checked it at the end of practice and it still had that perfect "roughed up" feel that holds chalk, so was there a problem with the tip? YES, it was the idiot who wasn't taking care of it properly.......
