Hello all. I had tried to get into this forum before my father-in-law and I tried to turn our first one but the mods didn't activate me in time. Anyway Just wanted to say hullo and show off my piece of junk that I am proud of. We ended up a nat hair off at the joint and scratched our heads for a bit about how it happened. I learned alot more by making this simple little cue by trying and screwing up than I had found info on the web.

The shaft was a spliced blank that came from pieces of hard rock maple witch originated in the gym floor of my old high school that has been torn down. The handle (we did it in only two pieces and no points) is made of Long Leaf pine a wood not used too much these days in construction as I understand it anyway, because of it's limited supply (Thats what the father in law told me.) Anyhoo let me know what ya'll think. In the side by side pics mine is the one on the right with the rings in the shaft

First off, Get a real dust respirator before messing around and making dust. You can do serious damage to your lungs without one.
The cue looks good for a first attempt. I would suggest you buy a book on cuemaking, It will help you alot if you have no training on the subject. Chris.

Looks pretty good for a first attempt and using a wood lathe. Keep plugging away.

Anyone have a good finish that I could try? I actually started by using can laquer but keep having to steel wool it down because of runs. I know that is cheap but I was working on a small budgett
