Disregard... I'm going to clean up the butt and tell the owner to look for a replacement shaft....

What is wrong with the pin? I would replace the trim ring(s) and call it good unless the pin or shaft threads were bent/damaged/etc.

I think the pin is ok . The shaft is cracked (collar) and threads damaged. Not sure of the thread ... CueTec shafts do not fit on that pin. Pin appears to be ok/stable. If shaft can be re-threaded rings are not important

Looks like standard 5/16-18 threads to me. You could probably just install a brass insert in the shaft and fix the rings.
I don't know what your setup is, you could also build a phenolic insert that could work.

Toss it, the shaft at least. The butt is made for a flat face shaft and the shaft is made for some kinda pilot/tenon with that weird gap in the face. It couldn't feel solid even if it would screw together. The ring work appears to match, but then it's very common ringwork. I doubt if these parts grew up together.

I was going to try to repair only for the challenge. If the shaft was wood I’d try it.

Well if that's the case just bore out the plastic and face it down to good wood, then make a black insert and build it back to standard length and butt diameter, then thread it to fit the shaft. It's not a difficult repair.
The shaft is very CueTec...has the plastic bonded finish. I can reduce-remove the (cracked) collar. What kind of material is used rebuild. The thread does not seem to be traditional. It starts to engage a 5/16-18 fitting but gets too tight and stops. I'd have to search for the correct tap. A washer of some kind was used to fill the gap of the cue not fully screwing together. (post #3) It got forced inside the shaft thread or it would be flat faced.

Does seem to be an oddball thread. Maybe even metric. These are ROUGH measurements, but diameter and TPI should be pretty easy to determine with the cue in hand. If you can do live threading or find a tap, you should be able to fabricate an insert.

On my original post I was considering using 5/16-14 or Uniloc as I have both on hand. I have no experience with live threading. I have made joint protectors so I’m ok working with pins/inserts. The cue is brand X so that
does not help as for what’s in there

It may very well be an 8mm, which is about .315" diameter. If you wanna repair the cue then do a cue repair, don't hack it up. Remove that pin with heat and just put a whole new pin and joint in. It's a good time to consider maybe a 3/8-10 joint now since it's all buggered up anyway. It's not expensive or terribly difficult if you already have the tooling, but I wouldn't but a 3/8-10 tap for it if the guy gave me that cue.

I’m going to proceed for exactly what you are saying …. And thank you and the other posters.

Good call. I'm a fan of the "repetition, repetition, repetition" philosophy, keep doing it over and over until you can teach it - only then have you mastered it.

The pin seems to be 5/16-18. We’ll leave the pin for now. The back plastic like material is mostly removed from shaft. Need to clean up a little more. Not sure about next step. What material is used to slightly extend to replace what was there. Not concerned with replacing the ring or a matching collar … only trying to make cue playable. If the repair is good I might refinish the butt.

I would probably build a stepped wooden plug that will let you add to the tenon and give a nice foundation for new rings. Then bore and tap for a brass insert.

Can I use ebony to plug and build up.(I have small piece)...or will I regret it when drilling/tapping?
