Flippers

Quite a few people on this forum are only here to buy your cues as cheaply as possible and "flip" them for a profit.

Do you have any problem with "flippers"?

I do have some problems when I sell them a cue becuse they "have to have it" to be their personal cue and I see it offered for sale at a large markup here the next day, it makes me feel like I was used or decived to price the cue low to them so they can make a profit I could have as easly made myself.

I don't have a problem with those that are willing to tell me up front the price they are willing to pay as they plan on selling and need to make a certain amount profit.

Sounds like you don't have a problem with flippers, but rather with bullsh*tters.

I see it this way: some people sell cues for a living, and have to make money on them. That's fine. Others buy cues generally just to try out a new maker, sometimes at a good deal, then try to pass them back at about the same price to other AZ'ers. Then there are the pure flippers who disguise themselves as collectors (bullsh*tters). lol - I'm sure I miss a lot of deals, but I don't deal with those types once I see what they are. And everyone here knows who they are :)

I try out as many cuemakers as I can, with the goal to break even overall on buying and selling. So far, so good - I've never gotten any grief from anyone over this. Honestly, I feel guilty if I pay $750 for a cue here, then offer it for even $800. I'll do that if I lost $50 or so on another cue, but only if it's still a fair deal. Screwing other collectors will bite you in the *ss very quickly on a forum like this.

Right on the money, runscott.

Since I joined the boards, I've bought and sold 60-70 cues. All said and done, I broke out about even.

I did make a couple really solid buys, that panned out to a nice profit. I've also gone upside down several times....since I bought a cue to try it out and get the experience with that cuemaker...then turn it for a 50-250 dollar loss.

It all equals out in the end....unless you do it for a living. Us "hobbyists" come out pretty flat across the board....but most of us do it for the fun of it anyway, and that's worth a couple bucks here and there.

Totally. I buy cues to see how the makers feel is and if it may increase my game. You just never know. I also buy them to introduce special cues to my market here in edmonton, albert, canada. Sometimes it is the only way to get people excited about the customs and the effort that goes into making them special. I hate to say but I don't go squirrelling for deals that is for sure. Bought a mcdaniels Q8 for a grand and a gilbert (love it) custom for 900 and a gilbert jb for 325 and no complaints. all were in amazing condition and I get to show them and let people shoot a couple with them and hey maybe it helps out those cutom makers who make cues not just for money but for the love of the game.
