For APA Players, especially newbies!

OK since I'm on the same 9-ball team as Steve I have to ask my stupid question.... how close is the Sands to the Rivera?????

I know what the map shows, but whats the reality?

The Sands was blown up, are you thinking about the Stardust? The Stardust across the street and is where the large marquise where they advertise all the shows and the food court is directly below it. It's not far to the casino, but getting to their rooms takes as long as it does to do to one of the farthest rooms at Circus. It's not bad at all.

There is a really small hotel called The La Concha, directly next to the Riviera and in-between the Peppermill Restaurant. I have heard it is high priced and really bad. I have never been there other than to walk past it.

Here's another thing I forgot to mention. If you have forgotten something, Walgreens is directly across from the Stardust and a 5 minute walk (tops) from the Riviera. They carry mostly everything. You can even do souvenir shopping there too. They have loads of stuff and are open 24/7.

Are you happy now Dean? LOL

I notice that some of you are inquiring about a 'pro' event at the Riviera this year. There will be no 9-ball or 8-ball pro event this year. This has been replaced with a pro artistic pool tournament. If you are interested in seeing the complete list of players, you may go to www.webtechosting.com/iapa. There is a link on the first page which will take you to the 2004 Las Vegas Artistic Pool Championship. All of the trick shot artists that you see on TV will be there, along with many other great players.

The artistic tournament will be held Wednesday and Friday. There will be no play on Thursday for the artistic tournament. On this day, we have scheduled a special Trick Shot Shootout tournament at the Cue Club. This will be a single elimination, ESPN style tournament, where players go heads-up against each other, alternating selecting shots. I don't believe there will be any gate fee for this tournament. Just show up at the Cue Club (of course I can't guarantee this but the guys at the cue club didn't mention anything to me when we booked this event).

I hope to see all of you there.

Andy,
Thanks for the info. I wish you guys well and look forward to seeing
one of your events live. I do wish there was a Pro event for 9 ball
or 8ball but I will live. Some of us do not get a chance to see the Pros
that much. I will check out the site for some more details.
See ya there

An out of the way place for a good greasy breakfast is the White Cross Pharmacy just north of the Stratosphere on the same side of the road (no dress code that I am aware of). It is a local pharmacy with an old-time lunch counter. Usually I’m the only tourist in there. I have a big omelet and read the paper. Vegas can get a bit intense after a few days this is a nice contrast from the DING DING DING or WHEEL OF FORTUNE sounds of the casino.

For a good chuckle read this excerpt from Drew Carey’s book Dirty Jokes and Beer. A funny joke and an appropriate primer for a Vegas trip.

stick and move !

Everyone told me the same things about Vegas, you have no concept of time and distance. Of course nothing closes and all the signs are so big you think I'll walk over there, then you realize the sign is a mile high. The further from the strip the cheaper the beer (in the stores) those cheap hotdogs at circus circus are CHEAP HOTDOGS. I don't recall what buffet we went to but don't worry about the 1000 people in line, and don't drink the water.
