For the Australians on the board...

A new website is launching called realpool.com.au with information about events and news throughout Australia for American pool as well as UK 8 ball and snooker.

The site is still in its developmental stage but is currently running. We'd like some players to check it out and give us thoughts and suggestions on any additional information or features you'd like to see included.

To help making pool bigger in Australia...

www.realpool.com.au

Thanks

Good luck with that. Pool is just about nonexistant there. I saw no regulation size tables, and I had to play 4 dollars aus to play on a bar table with small balls. Ouch! There was one regular bar table with regular balls at the RSL, if you sign up to be a member of their club you can play on that too.

i hope pool can get bigger in AUS as well, apparently they do not know how to promote billiard industry, and the teen national team does not even have enough money to travel for the IBSF tours and have to ask fans to donate (min $2 each.... feel so bitter)

hope this web site can bring some impact, seriously here just no good pool rooms, no competitions, no... nothing.

i know that if there are some bar comps in Syndey, that i can constantly win around $1000 a week, but the whole atomsphere is just.... so die out.

but, anyways, good luck, and i will call up all my pool friends in AUS to visit

:o

The area you live in greatly determines the quality of play. In Victoria there are several strong 8 ball areas, Ballarat being one of them. Money comps are less common, but its intersting to see that the pre-qualifying IPT events are being held in Vic, not NSW. I always get the impression when I play in NSW that every area has "their" rules.

Nice looking site.

Hope you can do some coverage of some Australian events...photos, placings, articles etc.

btw: You missed one Aussie IPT player. Me...though I'm listed under China as I'm based there now.

Good luck,
Colin

I can only speak for where I know, but I do know the scene in Melbourne and Adelaide is relatively big (on American pool) and constantly growing. If you know where to look, its not as bad as some may think. There are practically no bar tables I know of in Melbourne, except one room with around 10 valleys. The 9 foot American tables here in Melbourne are plentiful in most of the bigger rooms. However, I agree with you that overall the scene needs a lot of work.

Thanks for helping out :). In my opinion, there are a lot of flaws in the way pool is adverstised and run in Australia. I won't go into detail, but I'm happy to discuss it further with you if you want to email me (andrew@realpool.com.au).

Pool is huge here, its just mostly the Commonwealth version of reds and yellows. I mean no disrespect to the game and its players, but I see much more of a future for the American version of the game. I think now is a good time to try and educate Australia, with upcoming events here and especially a certain upcoming international event.
