I've got almost 300 posting on the for sale forum. But nobody ever seems to talk about the pure love of the game. I have owned hundreds of cues, many I wish I still had. From 1988 to 2000 there was not one day I didn't play pool. Mostly gambling. There is a scene in the hustler where fast Eddie is talking about how it feels to play perfect pool, the picnic scene. My favorite. If you currently own a cue that feels like it's part of you.? For God's sake don't sell it or trade it. They don't come around often. I used to play with a 1994 les blevins cue. Best hitting cue I ever had period. But like a idiot I sold it. Now I play with a Ben Greene Cue which is the closest to that special hit I've ever found. It will never be for sale. It's nothing real fancy, just a perfect player. Pool is quite special to me. In the eighties my wife, who was a diabetic since childhood needed a kidney transplant. Our schedules were backwards. I'd come home from work and she would be going to bed. So instead of running around on her etc. I played pool. All these years later I still feel that that special something in my gut walking into a pool room. The sound of the balls. The smell. That gold crown that just got recovered. The glow from a fine set of Centennial balls. There is nothing else like it. I've played thousands of players, some bad and some play like God. Parica always stands out for me. I've yet to see another human being play that good. At least against me. Pool has always been my friend, the day my wife passed away, after hearing the news I went to the pool room. Played 9 for 16 hours straight. It's exactly want I needed. I have never joined a league or anything even close. It's a battle between me and those balls and the table. Nothing else. Pool players are truly different. I know some players for years and can tell you there speed on ever game. But ask me about there family and I will no idea where they live, how many kids they have etc. It's always been about pool. Weather you walk in with a sneaky or a 4000 southwest makes no difference to me. It's how you play. Pretty cues never made anyone play better. I think that is the point I'm trying to make. Buy a cue you like.try a few out, see what feels good and play. Period. Who gives a dam if your opponent has a gus, george, jerry,or David Paul. If he can't run a rack it may as well go into the fireplace. So to those asking opinions about certain brands, makers, etc. That's fine. Just remember a sneaky from Ed prewitt will play exactly the same as his 6000 highly inlayed cue. When the day is over and lights have cleared it's your game that will be remembered, not your cue. To the young players out there. If you want to gamble take up poker. Pool is unique when it comes to money play. If you beat a guy for 500, it's your responsibility as a pool player to make the game right and give him a chance to win his money back. If you don't nobody will ever play you for $$ ever again. Word travels fast. So basically you will go back and forth for about a week and break even. If you are a Stand up person just stay away from money games. Trust me I know. Either NYC or California it's never changed and never will. Just love the game. You may let yourself down, but pool itself NEVER will.
