table under 8K
for best tight pocket play brunswick gold crown, or diamond. but there are many a good table out there with 4 1/2" to 5 1/4" pockets that play just as well. a lot could depend on whether you want a nice piece of furniture as well as a pool table, where you're putting it up i.e. do you have enough completely unobstructed space for a 9ft or do you go less. i have a 1926 brunswick regina with inlays, jumbo construction, brunswick monarch cushions, and simonis 760. its an oversize eight (pro eight). plays great. but i'd sell it for $5000 (its value is 8k to 15K according to some professional restores) and put in a diamond 8ft or 7ft pro level table just so i didnt have one corner obstruction like i do. its really preference oriented for most of us.
ive been playing 50 years on everything imaginable and like willie mosconi once commented at an exhibition match, " if you're playing on inferior equipment its going to yield an inferior game, but at least everyone will be at the same disadvantage." even so if he arrived at an exhibition and the equipment was less than at least "good" he got very perturbed. much of his playing style, talent, and art was in his pinpoint position. lousy equipment made him look bad and he hated that aspect of playing pool on bad equipment. so go with your gut but stay with the best you can afford.
another thought. save some money for excellent lighting, a good table mechanic, and good cloth.
