Will be moving to the area in a few weeks. Anyone know of good places to play? What are the rates and atmosphere of the places?

Bank Shot Billiards is where I play when I feel like rackin' 'em up in the 'ville. It's a really cool joint, with the old safe converted into their pro shop and they serve beer and food out of the old teller windows.

Truman Hogue, Bryan Roberts and Louis DeMarco frequent the joint as well. They had been regularly holding tourneys as well, but I don't know their schedule at this time. I played in a partners bank tourney (what else?) there a while back. It was fun.

Good luck with the move.

Louisville

Also there is Olivers. They have cheap pool prices (Sodas and pool for 5 to 6 hours in the 20 to 30 dollar range with tip). All 9 foot Olhausens with eased pockets, but decent place.

You have Diamond's with a couple of 9' Diamonds and a bunch of bar boxes. Nice place.

There are a few others around but this covers most of them. When you get in stop by Rack 66 on Preston and say hi to Bryan Roberts. He not only repairs cues and sells tables, but is good for a friendly smile and usually a great off the wall pool story from years back. He will also be the one to point you in the right direction for tournaments, leauges and anything elso pool related.

I am in the military near ft Knox and Louisville if u have questions about tournaments, pool halls, action, I can guide u in the right direction.

Bank shot- ok place to play, to boring for me and no music.
Diamonds - nice 7' & 9' ft tables, good food and atmosphere
Louisville billiard club- 7 ft and 9 ft diamonds, good food and atmosphere, action and bands on weekends
Olivers- horrible tables, nice room, cheap beer and not a place for serious players

I'll give you a quick list of places around Louisville

-Bank shot billiards, 403 E. Market street(downtown). It's $4/hr per person. By far the best pure pool hall around it has 9' diamonds with the drop pockets upstairs and some Gold Crowns and other tables downstairs.

-Billiard Club, 5404 Bardstown road. Great night club/pool hall with 3 9' Diamond smart tables $5/hr per person and a bunch of 7' Diamond bar boxes for rent or coin op.

-Diamonds pub, 3814 Frankfort avenue. Another great night club/pool hall. I've always considered it more of an upscale pick up spot than pool hall, but it has excellent equipment (2 9' Diamonds and several 7' Diamond bar boxes) and I love the food. Not sure of pricing.

-Olivers, 4001 Dupont circle. Bar/pool hall although I don't care a great deal for it. In the neighborhood of 15 9' Olhausens. I haven't been in a long time because the tables were in disrepare. They at one time had $1/hr night on a weekday but can't say for sure now.

-Gilberts, 4950 Terry road. Not far off of Dixie highway which runs from Fort Knox to Louisville it's worth checking out. Bar/pool hall with 9 7' Diamond bar boxes @ $.75 per game (unfortunately theres no rental). There's a nice blind draw scotch double tournament on Friday that usually pays about $1000 to winning team and a smaller one Sunday afternoon. Singles tournament on Saturday for APA 6's and under.

If you need Billiard related products or just a tip put on it's well worth your time to visit Bryan Roberts at Rack 66, 5004 Preston Highway. There are many other bars with tables in them but these are the ones that are most popular. Hope this post helps.

Thanks for the great info and reviews! If anyone wants to hit a few around when I get there just send me a message (I usually play 1P and 9/10 ball, but will have to learn banks). I'm probably going to be living in E-town and exploring the surrounding areas quite a bit looking for tournaments and action once I get back in stroke.

May I ask why E-town? You can't buy beer to take home there in gas stations, groceries or anywhere else for that matter. But you can order a beer at a restaurant. Go figure. I've got family down there, which is sufficient reason for me to avoid the place - ha ha.

Anyway, if you're going to be in the E-town area, you're just going to be one hour away from Campbellsville. They have historically had great tourneys there and Stan and Landon Shuffett live there as well.

Cheers...

The main reason for living there is I hate commuting more than 20 minutes to/from work. At one point I was driving around 1.75hrs each way and it got old very quickly. Right now I live 2.5 miles from where I work and the commute is around 4 minutes, up to 7-8 if I hit every light on the way. If there are other suggestions for places then I'm more than willing to listen. I'll be working at Ft Knox so anything close would be great.

Thanks for the heads up about the beer situation. I don't drink beer often but I do like one or two on special occasions, ie super bowl, ufc ppv's, etc.

Yeah, if you're working at Ft. Knox, E-town or Radcliff is about as good as it's going to get as far as a tolerable place to live that will also offer a tolerable commute. The good news is that you'll be just a short hop (1 hour drive) to fabulous Lexington as well. Lexington has an excellent little room called the Diamond Billiards Pub that is about as nice as any room I've been to. Lots of action and multiple tourneys almost daily. All Diamond tables, 3 nine foot pro ams and maybe 7 or 8 diamond bar boxes. Nice place.

Feel free to hit me up for a friendly game if you're ever in the Lex area.

Cheers...

I'm retired military, live in the area, work at Fort Knox and play pool. Haven't played in over a year but planning on starting back up soon. I like to play 14.1.......do you play this game? Like to gamble if the game is fair.

DTL

I've played it a little bit and would love to learn more about the game. No one around here really plays the game so I haven't been able to learn as much as I've liked from watching. I will definitely take you up on that offer!
