On quest for perfect 14.1
Silver Member
Hey all,

I had an idea and, after getting Charlie's permission, would like to present it here.

It would be a nice thing if we could have a charity-type sponsorship of Charlie as he looks to take down the world next week. Since he has become a major voice in this forum and indeed in all of 14.1, I think he is the perfect candidate for something like this.

I'd like to donate 20 cents for every ball Charlie makes in the round-robin format of the upcoming world event. This money will go to a charity of Charlie's choice. Would love it if others joined in, at any amount of their choosing. At 20 cents per ball, if Charlie wins all five of his round-robin matches, it would be $100. So no one will get too hurt, and I think it'll be a nice thing.

Not looking to make this a popularity contest, so please PM Charlie or me directly if you can spare a contribution. I think the check should be contributed to the charity simply as "AZB Straight Pool Forum". I'd volunteer to collect the payments but I don't have paypal. I guess I could figure it out.

The one caveat that I ask Charlie is that he in no way alters his shot selection during the tournament to simply make a few more balls, at the expense of the correct shot. Charlie has been gracious enough to accept this idea, as this is a huge tournament and the sanctity of the event must reign.

I also asked Charlie (twice :) ) if he was sure this whole thing would not add any undue pressure on him, and he assured me he was very comfortable with everything, and indeed was looking forward to it.

So... I'm in for 20 cents a ball. Anyone care to join?

Charlie, to what charity are you thinking you might want to contribute?

Thanks,
Steve

This is an awesome idea, and like you said Charlie is the perfect candidate for such a proposal. Charlie works with charity events all the time and I am sure that he will be honored to help out the charity of his choice.

Put me down for 25 cents a ball !

Guys when Steve sent me the message proposing this idea and I almost jumped for joy when I read it. It will be an honor to represent my personal sponsors J. Pechauer Custom Cues and of course the all new Cue Nine (billiards, bar, restaurant) at the World Straight Pool Championships this year as well as what I like to think of as the little guy in the pool world here on this very forum.

Right now I am leaning towards a fire department and an animal shelter here in NY. I am gathering all of the information now from both and truly feel that they are both very worthy causes.

The other cause I would love to support is the Wounded Warrior Project. Our troops do not decide where to fight they simply do so because they are told to. They follow orders and do so with honor pride respect and the knowledge that they are fighting for something above themselves.... us and I can't think of a better way to say thank you.

Guys I am open to suggestions so please feel free.

Thanks again so much for the support and thanks so much to Steve Lipsky for bringing up this amazing idea.

Please do not sell yourself short ten dollars can buy a lot of things for someone who has nothing and believe me it will go a very long way and the fact that you are donating says a lot about the type of person you are. For ten dollars at a certain store I know for a fact I can literally buy someone an entire outfit, a hot meal, food for a week (stretched out) etc.

Thank you very much.

Charlie

Thanks to all who have responded so far. Got about 48 hours left in case anyone else wants to join in last minute...
