Forward balanced cues

Hi everyone,

I'd like to find out which custom cuemakers make a great hitting, forward balanced cue. I have a cheap cue from the Philippines that probably worth $20 bucks but it's forward balanced and feels great in my hand. I feel like my stroke stays in a straight line easier with the forward balance - any opinions/suggestions on a cuemaker are greatly appreciated.

I've played with forward weighted cues my whole life. Here are some of them I loved:

Phillipe (sp)
Black Boar
Schon
some Joss
Scruggs
Palmer

and some production ones also all with steel joints:
Joss
Helmstetter
Adam

Good luck.......Gerry

Espiritu makes a great forward weighted cue. Not too hard on the pocketbook either, for the quality of cue.

Would anyone put Andy Gilbert in this category?

I'm not sure but it seems like a SS jointed cue will more than likely give you that forward balance.

Thanks,
Koop

It's the exact opposite for me. I can't stand cues that have forward balance. I've noticed it has a negative effect on my stroke rythm. Have you ever tried a cue with the weight more towards the back? If so how did it feel to you? A friend of mine had one like that, and just taking a few practice strokes I knew immediately I need a cue like that one. Either regular balance or the weight to the back works great for me.

I've played with cues where the weight was more towards the back, and it felt like I was having trouble making the tip dive towards the table on my follow through. Also, it also felt like it was easier for the tip to swerve either left or right on my forward stroke rather than stay on a straight line. What I mean by forward balanced is the balance point feels like it's a slightly more towards the tip; not necessarily front heavy where the back feels like it's "hollow". By the way, thanks to everyone for their responses!

It's not like your tip MUST dive towards the table....watch the pros play and you will see what I'm talking about.

It's like boxers or briefs...............totaly a feel thing........

even though forward weighted is better, and people who like them have higher IQ's!:)

Madison Bob makes a great forwarded balanced cue. I'd give him a call or an email.

My Gilbert is not front weighted either.

Hey Steve,

Does yours have a SS joint?
I'm just trying to guage if this could be one of the reasons.

Thanks,
Koop

No mind doesn't have an SS joint and I would suspect that is a contributing factor.

My Gilbert J/B is the most forward balanced cue I have. It's 20.5" from the butt end on a 60" cue.

Is that forward balanced? Seriously. That's the same as ... 19.5" on a 58" cue? Is that right? Yeah, that's forward balanced, alright.

I'll check my J/B tonight, but I know it's not that. I've shot with that cue as a player many times, and my arm tends to get sore with forward balanced cues.

What's yours made out of? Is it cored? Mine is purple heart, un-cored.

Removing the weight bolt will shift the balance forward.

forward weighted cue

Another really great hitting forward balanced cue that I have owned is a Dishaw. Took a little getting used to, but was hard to move away from the hit once I did.
