without reservation I'd say:

snooker goes to Davis (either one) 14.1 goes to mosconi (doesn't matter who's on the other side) 3cushion.... not sure, It seems like I read or heard that mosconi had a respectable carom game but not really sure.

I would say either Davis would win at snooker, Mosconi wins at 14.1 and 3 cushion.

It's not a fair match as I doubt either davis would have played much 3 cushion. In the same way that Mosconi wouldn't have a hope in hell against Joe Davis in English Billiards.

I remember reading that Joe Davis had intended at one point to try the American pool scene but it didn't pan out for whatever reason.

In Joe's autobiography "The Breaks Came My Way" he said he did travel to America with the intention of playing Mosconi in a few exhibition matches but I think it was due to Mosconi schedule that nothing could be worked out.

I do remember Rex Williams playing Mosconi in the 70's at both Snooker and Straight Pool with Williams winning the Snooker and Mosconi taking the Straight Pool.

This rings a bell with me. I think that this was of the early attempts by snooker's governing body to push the game in the US. (Largely a failure, as were later attempts made in the 80's - including giving professional membership to Jim Rempe and the Miz)

Getting back to the original post, I don't doubt that Mosconi would have take the 3C, since I doubt that either Davis ever played on a carom table (but maybe another forum reader knows better?).

A straight-rail game might have been interesting though. Joe Davis was one of the 'big 4' at English billiards (and at a time when the game was going through it's golden era). I should have thought that his billiard skills would have transferred fairly well to the straight rail games.
