Dear AZ community,

My late father, Freddy 'the Beard' Bentivegna - bank pool expert, one-pocket.org Hall of Fame inductee and author, spent a lot of time on AZ Billiards forums trying to educate players and steer them in the right direction in pool and in life.

He had a blast on this forum and made a lot of pals here.

I'm his daughter and I created an e-magazine called freddythebeard.com "devoted to the characters and culture of pool and billiards in honor of and inspired by one of it's greatest storytellers, teachers, and legends - Freddy the Beard" on what would have been the Beard's 77th birthday.

Even Hall of Fame Legend Billy Incardona said no one knew more about pool and pool history than The Beard and his pal, the late George Fels of Billiards Digest fame. They both had a great ear and eye for detail and witnessed pool's greatest events first-hand or heard of the event directly from the source. They were the BEST storytellers themselves.

Our magazine is a bi-weekly and focused on curating the best pool and pool culture stories available. Note, it is NOT to teach people how to bank pool or one-pocket. Freddy's books and dvds and commentating videos available from Accu-stats and on Youtube will do that. The Beard's own website, Bankingwiththebeard.com is FULL of free pool tips and advice he was happy to share, so please use it as a resource. Also, The Beard's son, Dino Bentivegna, available on this forum, said he will happily answer any technical questions from the Beard's teachings at any time.

Our 2nd edition is now live!

http://freddythebeard.com,

For a great laugh, read George Fels's 1986 Billiards Digest story on Freddy the Beard and the casting of Martin Scorsese's "Color of Money" in Chicago under our Features section. Fels caught every last detail of the old man, and I'm grateful for these delicious essays! And don't forget to read Bobby "Cotton" LeBlanc's interview, also in features. He's a Vegas local and loves the new Mark Griffin pool room, "Griffs" ! Don't miss the new column from "The Dutch Voice" Pepijn de Wit, his "Home of Champions" explains how Freddy the Beard's books won over the Dutch players! In "Freddy and Food" by the Pool Hustler's Daughter, reminisce about Freddy's home cooked meals to all road folk and hustlers from around the world. Read about Beard pal Danny Diliberto's induction into the Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame in the section "Articles from Around the Web." Danny D. and The Beard used to karaoke together in Ft. Lauderdale in the 1960s as two young, cute Italian pool hustlers. As grandfathers, they talked about Italian cooking over the phone. Check out R.A. Dyer's well curated, classic Holiday gift guide in "Book and DVD reviews" section.

Our columnist, Pepijn de Wit, blogger of Pool-Head.com fame, is a passionate one-pocket player from Holland who is living his dream watching the Mosconi Cup in Vegas right now. If you're there and recognize him, say hi! The Hague Five were disciples of The Beard and we love that he's pushing one-pocket in Europe. He's obsessed!

Thanks and Warm Regards,
