Has anyone ever heard or used any type of Free-to-Air Satellite system? I read that you can access alot of foreign channels with this kind of technology. The whole setup is not clear to me yet, so far all i know is if you have a setellite dish and a FTA receiver you would be able to watch foreign channels.

It would be perfect timing if I would get this setup before the 05 WPC starts, cause there would be close to a total of 70 hours of live pool that will be aired in Europe and Asia.

The satellite system I think you are referring to is aimed at satellite T5. It has some channels that require a subscription, but also a lot of free channels from various countries. I have some Arabic customers, some from India, Chinese, and some from the Phillipines that I have installed these dishes for. I asked one of my customers what he paid for his dish and receiver, It was around $350. This included shipping I think. Installation will run you around $100 to $199 depending on who you can find to install it. Most people who install Directv or Dishnetwork are not familiar with this equipment and will have a very tough time installing it and finding the signal. I won't promise anything, but you may find the WPA coverage on there.
If anyone in central Indiana would like one installed, {or a Dishnetwork or Directv} $299 plus $129 for a basic install. This is the price for the FTA setup. The Directv or Dishnetwork deal is the same as all the advertisements you see. FREE FREE FREE FREE Have a great day. SAM

What you need is Star Sports to watch WPC. Ask any Satellite system provider in your area and they will know which satellite carries it.

If you are in the Philippines, Star Sports is available on all CableTV providers or via Dreams Satellite.

Yes, no, somewhat.

I have two different satellite systems. Big C Band 12 ft. dish and a smaller Ku band dish. Both are free-to-air.

And both dishes rotate from horizon to horizon and point to satellites 30,000 miles away.

Now something pool related is the "arc" of dish rotation. You can adjust the dish to have a more flat arc like a quarter shape or a more rounded arc like a dime shape.

You need to be able to get the dish to be right-on for the satellites east/west as well as hitting the satellites at the top of the arc. Actually you need the be able to be right on target as the dish rotates from horizon to horizon.

I needed a GPS to set my dishes. Then a signal meter to be sure I was hitting each satellite dead on as it rotated. It took me a week to get my first dish lined up perfectly.

Then each satellite have various frequencies which change from time to time. You can get an mpeg receiver which can download all the latest frequencies from the internet here: http://www.satcodx.com

I like learning new stuff, but hate watching TV. So I had a blast setting up my satellite systems, now I rarely watch TV - prefer to read books.

I guess if you are very good at setting the time on things like VCR, Microwave, and a digital watch, then you would be good at this. Also need basic wiring skills and be good with tools to install and align dish. Also should know how to use a compass and a GPS.

The following calculator will help to find the exact coordinates for each satellite from your exact GPS location...

Installing Fta Systems

If you want some advice from someone who does Satellites for a living. You may be able to get the dish installed, cables routed, and maybe even line up the dish. Most people who try to install something simple like a Directv, give up and call for help. The FTA system is a little harder. I do have customers who can install their own equipment, hook up their surround sound, and even use their remote control to operate more than one device.
Your best bet is to pay someone with experience to install it for you unless you have a lot of time on your hands. Sam

Thanks for the advice, Sam. Much appreciated.

You only have 2 choices.

You must have StarSports or SkySports (1, 2 & 3).

These are the only 2 channels that carry WPC live.

The rest below will only carry edited highlights:
Supersport (South Africa)
Fox (Australia)
ESPN Star (Asia)
JSkyB (Japan)
Sky Network (New Zealand)
Sport1 (Hungary)
Roger Sportsnet (Canada)
ART (Middle East)
NTV (Russia)
DSF (Germany)
