Friendly Pool Halls in Paris?

not likely to find anyplace overly friendly right now to americans if you are one.

last time i was there thy basically tolerated americans.

I travel all over the world and have zero troubles. I’m in the UK right now, was in China 2 weeks ago. Middle East next week.

Pool brings people together, after 3 days in any pool room your a regular. Jay Helfert said that once here years ago. He’s absolutely correct.

Well, it looks like we will be heading out tomorrow. I got my mom a medical clearance to fly. (She had an accident while on vacation, I'm just here to help her and my dad return home safely).

It appears there are some pretty good looking options for the game in town based on a bit of Google Fu.

give us a report when you get back please. i spent some time over there a while back gambling but not at pool and found what i had posted above. things change though.
never saw any hatred. most older french people liked americans as what we did in ww11. saw that in other countries we saved back then.

I've been to the country three times. This trip we didn't run into any attitude except one waitress who was upset with me and rightfully so. My wife called just before she came to the table and I answered. Apparently she threw up her arms in disgust and walked away. I don't blame her. But I also felt the need to let my wife know how the hospital visit went that day....

A few years ago we did Normandy and people were very polite. The only mention by locals of the war was from a German man of all people. He reflected on the necessity of what the Americans had to do and the tragedy of why they had to do it.

Last year in Paris, most locals were friendly. The younger generation has learned English to watch American movies and shows. We did have some nice locals check inside my wife's purse for donations but none were found! :)

yea, english is the language of money so all young people in europe or most of it learn it in school/

good that attitudes are fine. glad you had a good time.

Almost got arrested in france. I was in a place looking to play and I guess it became pretty obviously I was some sort of Hustler and they called the police on me. I don't think the French Gamble at least not at pool. And I definitely don't like Americans.

I go to France and Monaco every year to play backgammon and we gamble. I’ve never had a problem once. Years ago the French were a bit proud of their language and even if they could speak English they tended not to, however they faded a lot in the past decade. I’ve never had a problem there, ever.

The only country out of roughly 45 that I’ve been to where I didn’t feel welcome was Egypt.

I’ve played pool for $ and never had a problem in many many countries, win or lose. Zero problems. Just have to manage your situation and pick your spots.

I’ve had more problems in America in bars in the 80’s 🤔
