From Early to Mid 90's-Ernie Martinez

Holy mackerel Ted. Nice Martinez collection there! You don't see those everyday!

It makes me wonder if we could persuade our local Giant Pumpkin grower to add some of his EM cues to the thread. He has some Of Ernies Very high end cues that are just stunning.
The ebony Szamboti tribute cue comes to mind first. Have you seen that one before? He made two of them that were absolutely amazing. Joe has the fancier one of the two as I recall. The other one may be in japan? I believe most of his high end stuff was sold to Japanese collectors at that time. So you very rarely see them.

Awesome collection!

Thanks Jay

Joe has those cues stashed away and is playing with the cues he's now building, he does have a bunch of nice ones from what I've heard.
Bert had some nice ones too...RIP
One has real diamond inlays.

Rarely does anyone sell one except for a few sneakies now and then.

Chris Byrne is refinishing another old one of mine that used to be Ernie's player.

Thanks for the great comments

Bert had many nice ones. He was an avid duck hunter in his time. So he had Ernie make him a matching pair of twin cues in which one had four solid 24k gold hunting dog castings inlay-ed, And on the other cue he had 24k gold cast ducks inlay-ed.
Berts collection was very eclectic and represented many of the finest cues by many famous cue makers. He kept amazing record of all details of all cues and transactions. I sold him the last cue he ever bought. It was # 302. Ernie was his favorite cue maker, A large part of that was Ernies personality. Not just his cues.

Rob K. told me he found a Balabushka stuck in with a bunch of inexpensive cues.
Good to see Frank is carrying on the Bert Kellerman tournament tradtion at Table Steaks.

Jay, this is why I started this thread.
Thank you so much for contributing.
When I played with the ebony cue with the ivory spears made for Davey Gomez (his name is inlayed in the butt cap), old tips and everything it reminded me of the beauty and the hit of his cues.
Davey didn't want to sell that cue to a collector so I played with it for a while a few years ago until a guy ran into it with his cue and I started using a new Terry McFadden cue.
Terry's new cues have a lot of Ernie's influence.

Peace

Ted

Send me your new Cochran and I will put a nice duct tape wrap on it for you and add some Sponge Bob inlays in the forearm...:smile-square:

Ill let you have my wife before my new Cochran cues, but Ted you really do have a sweet collection of cues there my friend.

Ow

Wow. I owned two of ernies earlier cues one unmarked SWStyle I would like back, picked tha cue up for 600, sold it for 800 thought I did well...cue was a monster player. And I had one that was a solid ebony merrywidow that played the nutz too...he is definitely and always been a dark horse, a heck of a cuemaker and machinist...someone mentioned the pins, take another look at those pins!!!

Ted you have been holding out. I diddent know you had that many Ernie cues. I have one in the shop if you are interested. LOL Do you want me to post pics of the joint protectors for it.

If a certain cue builder wasn't so busy building all those fancy ivory cues it would have been a nice addition.

And how about those j/p's

Brown Phenolic

Hey Ted,
I love the EM with brown phenloci. Awesome batch but that one is my favorite :ok:

I have another old one with nicely aged brown phenolic joint and butt cap.
It used to be Ernie's player.
I would have posted it if a certain un-named cue builder was done with a refinish...let's call him Chris Byrne.
Ernie also has one in his shop as well.

Thanks Tony
