Frye? Paradise? Mayer? …Rich?

Their is a reasonable chance that it came out of the Viking when Richard was teaching Gordon to make cues. It shares some similarities of both of their early work. The only Helmstetter cues I've ever seen from that time period were Titlist cues with super long steel pins. I can see someone cutting one down to a more reasonable length. Many of my 60's viking cues have oddly long pins too. The joint ring style is very common on 60's Viking cues. The short no bumper Butt cap was very Helmstetter. The ferule is exactly what Gordon used then, kind of a milky almost translucent soft plastic.
It's a little hard to say for sure, If it did come out of 'The Viking' it would probably be during the time Gordon was learning to build them and not so much a 'Cuemaker' as much as a student.
If that is what it is? What a piece of cue making history that would be!
You could find out if Viking cues would help you get in touch with Rolley Welch. He is retired now, ' still alive I hope' he's got to be getting up a bit in years. However, not many people know more about early Viking cues than Rolley. It's probably worth a phone call I would say.
