I used to own this cue and I can answer your question. The shaft with the short black collar is an original shaft. The shaft with the longer black collar was a shaft that Jim Buss worked on adding the joint ring work. I don't know why Jim made the collar longer, but he did. Thanks, Ron.

Thanks for the update, now that I got it from the horses mouth.

I was told it was Mr. BUSS, from St. Louis, who did the other shaft. But it really doesn't matter, the work is top notch and there are no issues with the cue. Thanks for the update.

??

Is this cue still available? It was on eBay but the listing was ended because the cue "was no longer available". Also, the question about the two shafts was asked on eBay and the reply was that "TAD KOHARA MADE THE OTHER SHAFT". In any case, the fact that one shaft is not original should be clearly pointed out in the listing on here or on eBay.

Just found out that the other shaft was made by Mr. Buss in St. Louis.

The name was not correct, but nothing was being kept from anyone as to the shafts. Anyway, the reserve I posted on the cue was not listed on e-bay, So the ad was removed and I have decided not to sell the cue. Thanks

Third edition of pool cue values, Pg. 412 and 413

That is what the book value is, I never claimed that the market is bearing this, unfortunately, there are no cues that are pulling book values. the whole market is soft as it has ever been. Doesnt matter though, I am keeping the cue, so it doesnt matter. Good luck, to everyone.

By the way, how beautiful is this cue!! The woods used are all 12 different harwoods mostly from exotic places all over the world and a lot from Africa, the ring-work that Keith has produced is some of the best I have ever seen from any cue-maker in the world. I started collecting cue when I was 13 years old, I met a guy at a cue expo in the Pacific-Northwest, he had 300 cues that were over $1,000, and that was in 1981. Anyway, I sat and talked to him for two straight days during that expo. at the Pacific Norhwest Exposition Center. That very nice informatiive man was, Jim Oswald owner of a Billiards Hall and Cue Sales in Gresham, Oregon.

Anyway, the first two cues I purchased from Jim were a Runde Schon and a Keith Holcomb Cue, I still have these cues and the knowledge he gave me led to some great investments that have increased up to 5 to 6 times there initial prices. But the education he gave to me over the next 15 years was worth it weight in gold. If any of you have ever dealt with Jim, you know what type of sharer of knowledge he is, as long as you are willing to listen.

Anyway, Jim just recently retired and he is having one of the AZERs' in Bothell, Washiington sell some of his remaining collection, so keep an eye out, cause' I know he has some treasures that might sneak into the market and if you have the money you may never have another chance to get some of the pieces he has accumilated over the last 30 years.

Anyway, thanks to Jim Oswald and to his caring, educational and fair business practices that he dealt everyday to the lovers of the pool world and cues specifically.

This is a, Thanks, JIM, hope retirement treats you as well as you treated all of us during your career. God Bless and all the Best to you and your family!!!!

PS. Any comments about Jim Oswald or Billiards and Bagels that people would like to share are more than welcome to add to this posting!!!!
And thanks for the information that many have given me. Take care

Also, I just got an e-mail from Keith Hannsen the maker of this cue,

he goes by, POOL-TIME, on this site, he stated that this cue is a one of a kind cue, that he has only made about 100 cues that have had this level of work or more, this cue has twelve different exotic woods and the main wood is mesquite and the other woods include, wenge, bubinga, purple heart, Bacote, Cocobolo, Goncalvo Alves, Kindwood, Lacewood, Padouk, Rosewood, Zebrawood. What a work of art. Keith stated this cue is worth atleast, $4,000.00. And I spoke with Jim Buss he stated that he doesn't know why he made the other collar a different length he called it a senior moment. He also stated that the ring work in this cue is so complicated that to make a set of joint protectors would cost, $250.00, just for the j/p's. Any questions, please ask, but this cue is trully a one of a kind cue that was made by a true artisan who was featured in the Hand of the Master ACA, 1995 Calendar, along with masters such as, Phillippi, Drexler, Tad, Porper, Jerry Franklin and others.

Take a look at a true piece of Art.

Thanks''

Mike

I also have purchased a cue from Jim and felt his dealings were top quality and very informative. I bought the Perry Weston which is pictured in the photos and albums section of my profile here on AZ if you would like to look. I am considering selling it after owning it for over 20 years. Its unsigned as its a very early example but the woods and style are very classic and it does not look like an out of style older cue. I hate to sell it but I feel uncomfortable playing with it since Perry passed away and it has become a collectable cue. Its condition is near perfect and I fear damaging it.
Mike Kennedy is a great guy to deal with. I have dealt with Mike and can assure any of you to buy with confidence from Mike.
Your Keith is incredible. The ringwork is remarkable. Good luck with your sale, Mike!!!!!
