ZekeCv, I doubt you can get back your deposit as the point of it is to discourage people from backing out, but if you manage, that would be great. Let me know.
It is a complicated deal I am trying to work out with the billiard store, originally I was getting a new brunswick 8ft for 1500 installed. I switched to another 8ft that was a bit more but still free ship and install. All along they knew I wanted a 9ft, just could not justify 2500 more for another foot and it would not have even been a gold crown or anything close. I am well known there, I have brought them thousands in business as well as the hundreds if not thousands I spent myself.
From the beginning of all of this, I was told I could get any cash I put down on the table back if I changed my mind. I knew any gift card money would not come back but the cash I was informed I could get back.
About a month ago or so, I went in to have a few tip's installed, put money on the table and tell them about my time at Paul Drexler's studio. When we got off topic about gold crown's they told me they had some used tables upstairs, I never thought to even go up there as it is mainly their showroom for bars and stools. I went up to check out the tables, and they had one gold crown that was disassembled and being refinished for a customer who bought it, though next to that they had 2 antique tables, one a brunswick the other was a table I never heard of but a nice table from the early 50's deco style.
The brunswick looked just like a gold crown II, but it had the "pretzel" weaved legs. I did some talking and negotiating and ended up with an offer of 900 for the table. It needs new bumpers/rails and felt to be installed for an additional cost. We (both me and the others at the store) had no idea what kind of table it was, just that it looked just like a GC with the weaved legs and that it was from either the 60's or 70's. I eventually found an original manual of the table, it being the "brunswick Viscount the 2nd" from 1964 I believe, though it was not a GC, I found that it has the same exact parts and everything as the GCII other than the legs/supports.
I was thrilled to get this table as it is essentially a GC table, but it needs new rails and felt and the rails are 150 and the labor to redo them is another 150. I have to buy felt, and on top of all of that they decided to tack on the shipping and install cost again, even though I am paying them to redo the bumpers (which includes felting them) and re-felt the table, and pay 60 extra for the bumpers than I could get them for just so it would make it easier for the guys installing it.
That was all ok.. I guess..I was going to talk to them about the 350 charge of delivery, its less than 3 miles! I am paying all the labor to re-felt, strip and install the new rails and set up, then I start going over my receipts of my payments and something was not adding up. I owe almost 900 still, the total was just around 1450, and at the very least I had paid down a little over 800, but I am almost sure I have put down over 1000 now, it is hard to prove. I just found out that they stopped using the computer to input my down payments when I switched from the first table to the second. In between I put over 300 on the table, and when I did the final switch to the 9ft GC I am getting, I saw that they were just using a piece of paper at this point, and it said "amount paid: 700"!!
I am going to the owner of this retailer now, I am in good with everyone that works there, but I cant shake the feeling of knowing that I am being blatantly ripped off now. Ya sure it could be a mistake, they normally deal with someone coming in and outright buying a table in one shot, but I am one of their best customers, and I have actually sold 4 tables for them just being in the shop, not to mention 20-40 cues I talked others into buying from them, I have given them information on many tables and cues they had no idea of what they were dealing with. Just one example: they had a pred cue that was the same model I have, and it had wrong rings up and down the cue at points A,B,C,D,E and the shaft. I told them it was a limited edition and they could get 200-300 more for it (it was already at that price though, they sell a pred sneaky pete for 500 or so when you can get them anywhere online for just over 300)
I feel I could run that place much better than them, I just flat out know more, and know how to sell stuff. But for them to go and rip me off after all of this is really shitty of them.
So, long rant, quick version: I am pissed at them now, I figured out I am being ripped off, weather they are doing it on purpose or not is moot now. I am going over their heads to the owner to let him know the deal, and what I am putting up with now, and I would like ALL of my money back even the gift card amounts. I should have around 1000 on the table already, though I would probably end up with 800-900. In this case, I will buy this table right away, I live in central ct. I work at a pool hall and know of many guys/company's that could install/move the table for me. I am at the point of, ya I Would rather have the table I have my money on, But I do not want to give them another red cent and want my money back and I am not going there anymore unless I am in a jam and need a shaft tipped.
I will be in touch with you about this table, I really would like for this to go though smoothly, and get my money, grab this gold crown from you and have it in my house within the month, at the latest September.
I will pm you soon to let you know.
