FS: McDermott I1 shaft-used and cheap!

I1? Really

Sorry, the tip of that does not look anything like an I Shaft. Sure the joint inside does, but that ferrule is not even close.

Thanks

thanks for pointing that out twal. I got this from a trade and this is the first time I have own an I shaft. Since you guys are knowledgeable on this shaft, do you guys think it's still an I shaft with a modified ferrule? Does it still have a value or am I better of keeping it? Thanks in advance.

You know unless I could see it in person, really hard to say. It could be an I shaft with modifications. Personally I doubt it.
Like the other poster said, the ferrule should be 1/4". Also if it were an I shaft there should be the sticker at the bottom by the collar. In your case there is nothing.
So the only thing on this shaft that looks like an I shaft is the red on the inside of the threads. Other than that this appears to be a standard shaft.
I hope you got a steal on this or you can take it back where you got it from if you paid for an I shaft. Otherwsie I think I would pissed
I would expect most would only value this as much as a standard shaft.
Good luck with your sale.

Thanks twal! I really appreciate the info. I got this from a trade deal and I might be under a little bit but not so much. I don't think the guy I traded this from had any intentions of fooling anybody. maybe it's just ignorance no different than in my part. Fortunately, the buck stops here since somebody like you shed some light to it.

I also believe that it's partially my fault for not doing my homework. I buy and sell stuff here to try, and this is a clear reminder of doing my homework. I'm just glad it turned out this way. I could picture this ending in more and worse ways! You know hot it is!

Either ways, I will let this thread get burried and will sell this shaft as a regular shaft on a new thread or I might just keep it. Thanks again!

It may have been a partial or a cue that was fitted to a cue with a smaller joint dia. That would explain the logo missing. Although, the OP did say that this did say I3 on it, perhaps he just failed to photograph that part of the shaft. Either way, I would say that this shaft is definitely an I-Shaft.
With regards to the ferrule, two thing could be the case that I can think of... The orig. ferrule could have broken and was replaced with a longer one. Or, more likely, the ferrule may simply be longer because this is an earlier I-Shaft. The earlier ones had longer ferrules on them according to a McDermott dealer in texas that I bought and I-Shaft from. This was about a year ago that I bought it, but he said he had the shaft, along with many others with the same attributes, since McDermott introduced the I-shaft concept. That's when they were doing all of the logos (I-1, I-2, I-3) above the joint collars in black paint rather than corresponding colors with the inserts.
Hope the info helps.

Thanks! that helps a lot! But just to clarify, I thought this was an I1 shaft because it's red, not an I3.

UPDATE:

Just got an email from the guy I got this shaft from and he contacted McDermott with the same inquiry.

Here is what the McDermott Representative said:

"Based on the shaft insert this appears to be an early generation i-1 shaft. We did use our standard length ferrule on these early i-shafts. It was also perhaps one of the first i-shafts made before we received the logos. Another possibility is that Dick or someone else has refinished the base of the shaft and removed the logo. The tip could have been special ordered on the i-shaft from us, or replaced after the fact. The latter is more likely."

I have this email and can forward it to anybody that is interested. I just don't want to put names on a public thread. Thanks everybody for all the help.

Glad you found our more info on this.
Well, for the price that is great deal for an I shaft.
Personally I like the I1 better than the I2. Stiffer shaft and better feel IMO.
I like my I1 so much that I am going to have a custom butt built for it :grin-square:

Good thing I got the info, thanks for your help and others! I honestly haven't used any I shaft, so if this doesn't sell soon, I might get a butt for it and use it as a break cue! Thanks again!
