I took apart my pool table today and found 60 pieces of pre-flag Masters chalk.

Here's the pics:

All have been used. #5 contains 1 brown and two without wrappers (I cannot verify that it is Masters).

PM me with offers.

Thanks.

Now that's funny. 60 pieces! Is this a bar box that just never got taken care of? Find any dinosaur fossils in there too? ;)

According the information I have been able to collect (from this forum and google), the paint used to color some of the chalk (some colors of Master chalk), was lead based. The paint used today does not contain lead, and the change did not happen at the same time as they changed the logo on the chalk (not sure whether they still do produce non flag chalk for some markets). The logo was changed around 2001, long after they stopped with lead based paint. If the chalk is from prior 80 and has the "right" color, it could contain lead, and lead has its pros and cons. Google "lead" to find out more.

Nice old chalk will always be collectable - glws!

For what it's worth, there are differences on the label. Old pre-flag chalk does not have the trademark symbol, and uses "ILL." along with the zip: "60612"
The new pre-flag chalk has the trademark symbol and uses "IL" with no zip code.
If the formula hasn't changed, it could very well be that the ingredients have changed in some way. I do know that the label changed at least once prior to the flag being removed.
I will say this, comparing the old stuff to the newest I have, it FEELS different (to the finger, my cue doesn't seem to care).

I will look at it when I get home tonight and update the first post. I am not 100% positive if it has a zip code or not.

mine have no zip, but have 'ILL' so is this a label in between the other two?

I have never used pre-flag before. So today I tried some of the stuff I saved for myself. Let me just say that it goes on way better, and it is a bit more "grippy" on the cue ball.

Blue. That's what I kept for myself. Still looking to sell the 60 pieces on the pictures.

Sorry just realized there was another question. I purchased the table about 5 months ago via Craigslist. Yes it is a bar box. I don't know how long the guy had it before me.

The whole purpose of taking it apart was to see what needed to be done to "fix it up."
