I'll be coming to Ft Lauderdale in April. A few questions:

Is that an ok area?

Any pool halls close?

Any suggestions for things I should definitely do or places I should check out or great places to eat?

Absolutely correct.

I believe eight 8' & 9' Gold Crowns plus three heated Olhausen billiard tables. Clean, no-smoking, friendly, and safe.

The area where you are staying is fine, not very far from the beach area.

Runway 84 has the best veal chop on the planet. It is $$$ but an amzing restaurant.
Like any other place ...be careful in Florida. And never mind some of the drivers...they are nuts.
