i priced a schmelke modified sneaky pete.i basically could get either the schmelke or a dominiak for roughly the same price.

the reason i would like to try the schmelke is for the supposed superior hit of a full splice cue.

is there truly a difference?is the difference a very big one?

Hi havoc.....hows things in Altoona?.....we used to do a Carnival up there years ago...I was a Carney in another life.

Anyway From a cue builders stand point, and this comes from a QUALITY cue builder, not me!:D....the full splice has many uses not the least of which is using shorter pieces of wood to reduce the chance of warpage. Looks, and the use of differing density of woods also gives you a change in hit. Not to mention every time you cut/join/machine anything you have to put it back together again and that opens the door for potential problems.....also full splice cues are EXPENSIVE and time consuming to make.

To me, the full splice is over hyped. My best players right now are plain jane cues with no splice or points, linen wrap, and lately I've switched to Phoenolic joints.....purely out of playability and feel.

to each his own, Gerry

in general no. it's like comparing tires....there are great makers of each kind, good makers of each kind, and "get me by" makers of each kind as well. find the "style cue you like, do the research including all reviews you can find on a specific makers cues, order one to your specs or find one for sale and take the plunge. if you do things right you'll end up with a cue that will play great and last you a lifetime......unless you have a bit of CADD....."Cue Attention Deficit Syndrome" then you may never "settle" for a specific cue.......i know some people like that....;) :D

hey gerry.whats up down your way?

same old central pa here.

you were a carnie huh?guy on my friday night league is a carnie.
i love carnival food,if i worked one i'd be 400 lbs.

i figured the full splice thing may be a bit hyped but you never know.
i think it's just the shaft that counts.my lucasi feels great but i can do so much more and shot much better with my wifes cheapo pinnacle.i checked the shaft on it today and it was 12.9 at the tip and by 9 inches it was 13.5.so i'm gathering that i do better with a shorter taper, stiffer hit type shaft.

just got a joss butt and i'm looking for a joss shaft to fit it.
