It's also some sort of "No Safe" rules; incoming shooter always has the choice of giving the shot back, which they do frequently. Interesting.

Mike was already off the tournament trail at that point, but once in a while he still came out of "retirement" and reminded players that he was a professional player.

Yep. The match is more of a fun alternative to today's slow, methodical ones. They do miss a lot but I think it was primarily due to the 20 second shot clock. The rules were weird but if you had that same tournament today with the same amount of tv exposure and prize fund the pros wouldn't give a rat's ass what rules you made them stick to and those guys probably didn't either.
 
I enjoyed it...the 20 second clock and the time clock made for fast and exciting play. ESPN knew what they were doing...the format is great for TV.
