Funeral expenses for Larry Nevel

of course they will come back for more from the strangers that gave them all that money previously.
sure we dont know where it went and should. but it was donated so a person could do the things he wanted for fun before he died, that many of those that donated cant afford to do or havent done themselves.

i do donate lots to things. but not unless i know alot about the organization and exactly where the money goes.

donating to someone that had his whole life to save money for vacations or make money isn't my cup of tea. if it is yours so be it and donate all you want.
then to donate again to bury the guy you dont even know just because his wife wants a more expensive buriel than the cheapest around go ahead its your money.

You know, lets be honest. In the last two and a half months they have had around $18,000.00 donated to them. Only a month ago they were at $12,000.00 and are back for more. Where did that $12,000.000 go? This was no surprise, that money should have been for his family and the bills they knew were coming.

Your point is valid, I agree. Poor planing, and foolish spending.

Larry died in Mayo Hospital, best care in World.

Apprently a diabetic, and if you take disease seriously. It is very controllable.

If you blow off the diabetes, it complications are terrible.

I don't know larry or his wife personally, but this is what I know/my thoughts

I've enjoyed watching larry play for years, he had a helluva stroke and was smart, creative player
then he got sick and got stuck in a wheelchair, which was effectively the end of his pro pool career
what a blow that must have been. I know for me I was missing him playing, for him I can't imagine
later on, drs. gave him six months to live, so the man wanted to go to seaworld with his wife
I don't know their finances but imagine earning must have been tough being sick and in a wheelchair
anyway they got to seaworld and fewer than six months later, larry's passed on and here we are

if somebody asks for help and you can afford it, you give it to them- this is a trust thing/sucker's bet
there is an element of truth to it tho..we can't always know what's going on, but people do need help
my mom told me about "bread in the water" growing up..if you have it to give, you go on and share it
the bread may or may not come back to you, but the point is you give in good faith (not religious btw)

larry was a great contributor, a friend and acquaintance to many in the pool world
this is a pool forum. to varying degrees, we are all members of that world
if his more immediate friends and family gave all they could, then it's up to us, I think
even if only in some small way. when somebody needs help, every little bit counts
larry gave so many of us much entertainment over the years, and didn't take a dime
if we all came together here on azb and gave a buck or two, it would be done
anyway I'm going on..again I get being leery of gofundme culture, etc.
and we all gotta do what feels right to us. we need each other tho.

nice post evergruven. its good you are passionate about helping his wife out. nice of you. and i assume you will be one of the ones that dont just send 50 or 100 bucks but send a 1000 or more as that will do the most good and you get to share your bread.

when you want people to follow you lead the way with strength. and let us know how many thousands you sent for the cause you are advocating others send to.

Man there are some hideous things said in this chain of posts. Those of us who are still in good health and can play pool every day are so far ahead of many many other people,, and of course way ahead of those who just died. Among other things, diabetes can ruin the health and body of even people who take care of themselves and follow doctors' orders; I am confident Larry's wife needed the money; people who begrudge his wife funeral money because they wanted to go on some bucket list vacations are missing the point; and just because you want to help them you don't have to give $1,000 or more.

This chain is embarrassing to me.

Why do you care if he sends 5 bucks or 5 thousand? One if his last sentences says "we all gotta do what feels right to us". It doesn't seem like he is advocating at all, just sharing his thoughts, as many have done.

Maybe it is just how it is written but your post seems very snarky. Some people believe in Christian charity, others Karma, and still others just like the idea of helping a fellow human out who just lost her husband and friend.

i believe that if you are going to verbally ask others to donate to your cause then you should be the big donator.

if not then just donate and and dont be the speaker for them. i have no problem with that.
and its good to donate to good causes. each person has their own definition of what is a good cause and whether your money should go to one place rather than another.
if then you are going to advocate giving to burying someone that means your money is chosen to go there, instead of maybe feeding a starving person. its all a personal tradeoff. and what you do says a lot about yourself and your ideals.
