Funny Pool Story

I just started playing pool again after a long break. I really don’t remember how the topic came about. My son’s girlfriend’s mom mentions to me that there is a new pool hall coming across town. She doesn’t know the name of it or know the address but she will get it for me.

So a few weeks goes by and I bother her and she gets me the name of the billiard hall. I go there on a Sunday afternoon and they are closed that day, but open up tomorrow at 5pm. I look in the window it was dark and I really couldn’t see any tables.

So the next day I head down after an appointment. I’m thinking great I now have a pool hall in town and I don’t need to travel to play. So I walk into the “Pool Hall” and what do I see I’m the only Caucasian man in a room full of Vietnamese playing “BILLIARDS”. It’s like the scene in “Animal House” I see one Gandy I grab a set of balls and play the Gandy in the back of the room. I Wack some balls for about an hour. I just put a new tip on and wanted to try it out. I see that they had a card open in their security camera system and asked about it. Of course they played stupid and didn’t know anything. I went to the counter and asked how much and they said “don’t worry about it”

It’s just one of them funny situations that in my entire career I never walked into. The people were cool all having a good time. This probably is the only place around I could get a 3C game for about 50 miles. If I played 3 cushion more I might think of playing in this place again

Most, if not all, Vietnamese rooms have 9-foot tables with slower cloth than the standard 10-foot tables.
……they may not play much 3-cushion billiards.

There is a Vietnamese shopping center in South Philly on Washington Ave that I stop into once in a while.
Some good 3C players in that room and it is always busy.
Fun place.
There is another room that I have gone to just over the city line in Cheltenham in a Korean shopping center.
Their downstairs is a 3C private social club with fully stocked kitchen.
