Fury vs Sledgehammer b/j

It sounds like it is almost impossible to buy a Sledgehammer with confidence.

I guess it reads like that, but it's not like that. The SledgeHammer is one of the best j/b cues ever made. If you get a Tier 1 SledgeHammer, made in Taiwan, you're going to get a great j/b cue. Don't get the wrong impression on that.

And if you get a higher model (elite or proline), you're going to get a great j/b cue.

If you get the Fury J/B, IMO, it's the best bang for the buck. If you want to pay even more money than the SledgeHammer, the Jerico Stinger and the X-Breaker IMO lead the pack of j/b cues making jumping extremely too easy. And don't forget about Kevin Varney's j/b cues which have received nothing but high praise on this board.

i used to have on of the first 10 sledgehammers ever made...

the cue broke really strong... till my one friend who breaks like godzilla was testing it.. and cracked the tip.. so i sent the shaft in, wich mike colvered under the warranty and when i got it back... i couldnt break for crap with it.. nothing i could do would let me keep the cue ball on the table..

after that.. i had to sell it.. dunno what it was.. same tip and all.. but once it was fixed.. i couldnt use it..

my question is.. are they still going to make the fury jump break? or are they going to have to change the tip setup because Mikes patent on the cue.. i know j&j stopped making the one piece tip/ferruled cues because of the patent..

hmmmm.. it will be interesting to see!

I recently got a Type I Sledgehammer. Mike told me that he has ceased having them assembled overseas and that he was going to start making them in his own shop because he wasn't happy with the results of the outsourcing...and didn't like McDermott's work, either...

Consequently, it turned out that mine was the first Type I made in the US by Mike himself! So....as a favor, he signed my forearm, under the finish, with gold felt pen.


It's pretty sweet -- never seen another like that.

P.S. - as a person who has played with both the Fury and Sledgehammer, I STRONGLY recommend The Sledgehammer! I found the Fury J/B to break pretty well...but the jumps left quite a bit to be desired. The shaft is REALLY whippy -- whereas the shaft on the Sledgehammer is stiff, strong, and has a much better taper for breaking, in my opinion...

Then again, if you don't want to pay the money for the Sledgehammer, I guess Fury is a good alternative. Personally, I would prefer a simple J&J for $50 if I couldn't afford a Sledgehammer...at least they're solid...

But maybe, that's just me.
