i did a search and didnt come up with anything:banghead:
what is the difference ???
does it matter if its green or black???
will a 3/8 -10 shaft fit and be ok on a g-10 pin ???
thanks for your help

G-10 is a material and 3/8x10 is a thread type.... you can have a 3/8x10 G10 pin ... they aren't interdependent.

On top of what Paul said, It's all about the end result of balance and hit desired. The fit will be fine as long as the proper tap is used. They may not be interchangeable with other 3/8X10 screws because of the different manufacturers of the screw itself. The best example I can give you is: I have 4 different sized taps for the 3/8X10. People will say the joint screw is just there to hold the shaft to the butt, It's the biggest can of worms going and I totally disagree with that theory based upon, if the joint screw varies in weight and material, the hit changes. It doesn't matter if it changes a little or a lot. It changes so based on basic physic's. It matters. jmo More info than you asked for but knowing you, sooner or later you'd ask.

mike you know me too well,,,,,,:embarrassed2:,,,,,,,,

what does a break tip have to do with a joint screw???

It was about the green and black issue.

I answered the question that was asked.

I was just saying why I used black phenolic instead of green for a tip.

I don't use it for a joint screw.

Yes you can use a 3/8-10 shaft on a 3/8-10 G-10 joint screw.

This might help---------

Mr. Gold uses a modified 7/16X11. He switched to the black 3 or 4 years ago.

G10 is a material made of epoxy resin and fiberglass fibers. I don't know for certain, but I assume the only difference between the green and the black is the black dye added to the batch when it's mixed.

G10 is made in both sheets and rods, and is NOT just a pool cue industry material. Because it is incredibly strong for its light weight and has numerous other beneficial properties, it is used to make a million different things, including pool cue joint screws and break tips.

As explained in posts above, G10 is just one material of which a joint screw can be made. 3/8-10 is just one size and thread count to which a joint screw can be made. Just because they both have a "10" in their name doesn't mean they're the same thing. There are G10 Radial pins. There are stainless steel 3/8-10 pins.

So, to answer your original question: No, not all 3/8-10 shafts will fit a G10 pin. Just as not all 5/16-14 shafts will fit a stainless steel pin.
