Is G10 suitable for a standard ferrule that goes over wood? Also would G10 be ok for thin cap atop an existing ferrule serving as a shaft protector?

Fine for jump or break cues, but G10 does give a very harsh feel and sound. If you want a hard, durable material for playing shafts look at Ivorine or LBM

Let me give another plug for Tomahawk. I’ve replaced all (over a dozen) of my ferrules with Tomahawk. I’ve been very pleased with the results.

Awesome stuff!

Tomahawk can be purchased in either 1” blanks or 1 foot rods. I use both depending on whether I’m replacing a ferrule on a wood shaft (1”) or finishing a CF shaft (1 foot rod). The ferrule on my Cynergy shaft was not up to par for me; replaced that ferrule with a Tomahawk ferrule and it plays and sounds much better. BTW, the 1 ft rod gives me plenty of length on the lathe to cut whatever size insert I need for the CF shaft.

How is the deflection? I bought a couple of blanks from Verbo and have tried a few different materials for the ferrule and have not been pleased yet.

I used Tomahawk to replace the Cynergy ferrule that came with the shaft. This change was to eliminate the annoying tink sound; I noticed no difference in the deflection. I too bought Verbo shafts and finished them using Juma (1 shaft) and Tomahawk (second shaft). I’m biased, but to me the the shaft with Tomahawk plays and sounds better. YMMV.
