The control box that came with the unit 8 years ago, has 3 individual no name controllers. I have looked at replacing just that one, but can't find one that looks like the others, and it seems to make more sense to use a better unit that does all 3 and also supports a 4th axis. The unit I have doesn't even have a breakout board, it's a total home build style. I thought I would at least be able to get this finally up and running using those boards, but didn't work out that way.
All axis's were working fine with the cables just spread all over, then I routed the cables to one side with a wire track and added the home switches and suddenly the Z axis would run in reverse, up was down and down went up, but it crashed the router into the table and jammed, then the magic smoke came out of the board, and we all know you can't put that back in...and the board fried.
Still not sure why this happened, but open to hear how that can happen when everything was testing fine before putting the cables into the wire track. The stepper cables are shielded, and grounded only on one side, in the control box.
