Will his big win at the US Open will be the first of many major titles Gabe Owen captures or will he be a one hit wonder?
Gabe came into the Open known as a very strong regional professional not quite among the elite pros. In that sense, he came in with similar credentials to Tommy Kennedy and Reed Pierce, the other two surprise winners of the Open in recent memory who both went on to be, more or less, and with no disrespect for them or disregard for their achievements, one hit wonders.
Still, I believe Gabe will prove to be a great one. Let's face it, at the US Open, he went undefeated and did all the dirty work himself, beating Sambajon, Morris, Robles, Immonen, and Hohmann twice. Also boding well is that he seems to be molded in the image of his buddy Jeremy Jones. He has the big break, the solid mechanics, and cue ball control of a top nine baller, along with the touch, finesse, and creativity of a top one-pocket player (which he is). It's a recipe that has worked well for JJ, and I believe it will work well for Gabe.
