Galveston World Classic Payouts do not add up

In most cases pro players don't want to do autographs or conversate with fans. They just want the money and to be left alone. They won't do the leg work to give pool the reputation it needs and build a fan base by treating those fans with the respect to make them want to attend more events, spend more time on the table at their local room, and buy more pool products to make the sport thrive.

I have to disagree. There are a few that aren't very sociable with the fans but they're the minority, not the majority. I've found the majority to be very approachable and more than willing to smile for a picture or sign an autograph. Many can be found sitting in their sponsors booth during Valley Forge, BCAPL, & the BCA expo.

On the other hand, other pros in other pro sports are not even remotely as accessible as pro pool players and when you do get a chance to get up close, it seems the majority are the ones that don't want to be bothered, and the personable guys willing to smile for pictures and sign autographs are in the minority.

Yeah. Every pro pool player I have asked for an autograph has given me one and even talked to me withough a painful look on their face. I have even seen them walking around the casino in Vegas and they stopped and talked to me and answered my questions. I have not yet had one be an asshole to me. I even scared the shit out of Earl Strickland with my 3 month old pitbull/mastiff puppy outside of Kolby's and he was still nice to me. lol

This is ridiculous. Pool players aren't looking for a free handout all the time, they just want to know what is going on with the tournament so they can make smart decisions!!

They have many factors to consider to help them decide whether they should go to a tournament or not: what are the benefits; what is the added money; how long will the tourney last; how much does it cost to go; etc. I think it's fair to ask these questions because it is a week long tournament that the players have to invest in to even get there.

The key to the Galveston tournament (for ME) was there wasn't enough information (IMO) early enough for me to make a solid decision on going to the event or not. I could not feasibly take a week off for "what ifs." By the time we received the answers, it was too late for me to make a commitment.

And now I see what they are defining as "pros." eeek.

I will watch the events on the live streams (that I hear they will be having) to watch my friends and colleagues. I wish everyone good luck in their matches!

I'm of the same mind and won't be going to Galveston for pretty much the same reasons. (We are not alone, Trigger :-)

One real problem with the current big pool jamboree model is the amount of time (and money) they require a player to invest. If you go to the DCC for any time at all, and/or then a league event out in Vegas, and maybe a smaller event here or there, how's the amateur player suppose to have the time and/or money for all these events and maybe squeeze in a trip to Disneyland with the kids and a non-pool related getaway with the significant other, and not get fired and/or divorced.

Everyone wants to create a hostage situation nowadays, where they keep you on property for days and days. I know it makes sense for the promoters, but maybe not so much for the average amateur.
