I've seen game counter balls used in tournaments...the type that are strung over a table and the balls are about 4" in diameter. Each player slides a ball to his side after a win.
Are sets like this available commercially and if so where? Mitch
 
I've seen ping pong balls and whiffle balls strung on fishing line. It's cheap and effective.

I bought and drilled holes through some 1.25" pool balls to put on a brass 1/8" rod. Still cheap but better looking, you just need sturdier support than with the lighter options.
