is there any game that you can play and it help your skills more than any other game ..also i would like to know of anything diffrent than straight pool people say that helps alot but i was wondering if there was a diffrent one

Sorry that you dont want to hear it..... but straights is pretty much the best practice game. 2nd, I would say 9 ball, because of the sometimes difficult positions you are faced with.

I'd bet Efren and his buddies would tell you 15-ball rotation. Most players that I've heard asked respond with 14.1 as mentioned above.

Play 9-ball or 8-ball with ball-in-hand after EVERY inning regardless of whether a foul was made or not. It makes you focus on the entire layout of the table and runout rather than just the next ball. This is especially true with 8-ball since it makes you look for run patterns.

Gotta say (and I'm sure you don't want to hear it) that 14.1 might be the best game. It seems like you've already heard this and don't like the answer, but tough.

When I first started playing pool and up until a month or two ago I only practiced 9-ball. Now that SJM has got me hooked on 14.1, I regret not having started with 14.1 as a practice tool. Not only am I learning more about the game (precise position, running balls, controlling a table), I'm also building up mental stamina in the process.

I like rotation, too. It gives more opportunities to shoot at difficult shots (kicks, banks, and combos) than most other games.

The thing about straight pool is that you will be pocketing more balls and as such you will very quickly build a catalogue of shots that you know will be able to make, which makes playing position much easier. This is called positive reinforcement.

If you play only 9 ball though, you will pocket far less balls and you will simply spend lots of time missing. The only thing that teaches you is that is what not to do, but not always what to do.

Many people tell me that 14.1 is just too easy, which I find is amusing because when I play them they can't seem to run more than 4 balls.

I got one

since noone has mentioned this game, I will. you can learn position play by playing 9-ball ring games, and a little game called 3 ball. in 3 ball you have to use the whole table. in a ring game, if you don't make the right shot you can lose money which makes you "bear down" a little harder. also...bottle pool can be a good learning game as well. golf is another game you can learn with, and you can gamvle on any game I had mentioned. my practice routine is (now I know what it's called) 9 ball playing the "ghost". that's got to be the best that I know of. you need no opponent, lose no money, and is quite fun. have fun with them, and let me know if they help you!
