Gandy rails

I have read a few things on here about Gandy rails being incorrect. They seem to sit too low and cause the balls to hop. I would like to have my rails professionally modified before installing new cushions (and new cloth!). I’d like to know all your thoughts, advice, and information on this.

We have two Gandy G's in my club-house and both play very well. Haven't experienced any ball hopping no matter how hard the cue ball is struck into a cushion. It may be possible that the wrong cushions were installed on your table when it was last re-cushioned and recovered. If you could measure the height and width of the cushion and post that info, perhaps a table mechanic could let you know what the problem might be.

I’ve heard from many sources that Gandy didn’t make their rails right at the factory. You can absolutely see a sharp change in the rail where the rubber is. I will try pulling the cloth and take my own measurements. So far as I know, the rubber is the original installed rubber. It is rock hard and completely dead which is why I am putting on new cushions.

Those of you who have worked on Gandy cushions, what have you done, if any modifications were needed?
