Is there a cure (other than re-wrapping a cue) for tiny gaps in the irish linen that expose just a sliver of the handle. Or is this pretty common and nothing to worry about. Thanks for the input.

Hard to say without pictures to see just how much gap you're talking about. If it's real slight, the person who installed it may not have pressed the linen enough. Repressing the linen may close the gap. If it's a bigger gap, you may be able to move a few of the adjacent threads before repressing. If it's too big a gap, you may just have to have it rewrapped.
I'd suggest taking it to a good repairman and let him look at it.

You need to have it repressed and polished. The repairman that does this can go four or five strands both ways from the gap and spread each thread apart just slightly until about ten threads all have the smallest amount of space between each. Then when repressed they all will meet and eliminate the gaps totally.
