Gas prices affecting your playing?

The day before gas prices soared, I drove around for two hours trying to find a specific movie. That was nice... Tonight I have to drive to Auburn to bring a buddy into Columbus. Tomorrow, my friends and I will be driving out there to tailgate for the game.

And my Volvo has terrible gas mileage.

EDIT: By the way, the movies I'm looking for are old Disney movies. I'm such a pansy.

Only problem with that idea is if we boycott on Thursday, everyone would get their gas on Wednesday or Friday. We still gotta have it!

I pass 6 gas stations coming home from work. Yesterday, 5 of them had no gas, and the one that was open was selling it for $3.39/gal.
Steve

I wouldn't stop buying gas, but if everyone chose just one company to boycott and stop buying gas from, like Shell, BP or Exxon, which ever one is the largest, then they would be forced to lower there prices.

So I am putting my pool hall playing on hold and I will not be driving to Spring Hill this Saturday unless I get in a car pool.

If you're scared, just say so ;)

I just received this from Orange County Deputy (and Forensic Artist) Steve

Subject: Getting Gas Prices Down
Date: Wed, 17 Aug 2005 14:03:53 -0400 (GMT-04:00)

Everyone should know that I don't forward this kind of stuff, but I really
like this idea. The only comment I would add is this ? Do you think the oil
companies were making fat cash when the price of gas was $1.50 per gallon?
You bet. From my business experience, price isn't determined by what the
product costs to produce, it is determined by what the market will bear ...
and currently our market is bearing $2.50+ per gallon. With no action the
cost will only go up. For those of you who were with me in Kuwait, have you
seen more Mercedes, Porsches, Ferrari's, BMW's, etc any where else? Not even
in LA.

I hear we are going to hit close to $3.00 a gallon by the end of summer.
Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united
action. Phillip Hollsworth, offered this good idea: This makes MUCH MORE
SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going
around last April or May!

The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't
continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It was more of an
inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of
this idea has come up with a plan that can really work.

Please read it and join with us!

By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $1.50 is super
cheap. Me too! It is currently $2.75 for regular unleaded in my town. Now
that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think
that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50-$1.75, we need to take
aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace, not
sellers.

With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take
action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we
hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And we can do
that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't
just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act
together to force a price war. Here's the idea: For the rest of this year,
DON"T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are
one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not selling any gas, they will be
inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other
companies will have to follow suit.

But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and
Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do!! Now, don't whimp (sic) out on
me at this point ? keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach
millions of people!! I am sending this note to about thirty people. If each
of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ... and those 300 send
it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the time the
message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over
THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this
on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If
it goes one level further, you guessed it .... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!
Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people and DON?T purchase ANY
gasoline from EXXON and MOBIL. That's all. (If you don't understand how we
can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people ...
well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician. But I am ? so trust me
on this one.)

How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more
people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably
be contacted within the next 8 days! I'll bet you didn't think you and I had
that much potential, did you! Acting together we can make a difference.

If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on.

PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND KEEP
THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK

All right, Jäntti, no Snickers for you.

Here in Finland gas has cost more than 5 $/gal for many years already. Now it's up to 6.30 $/gal and it's been announced that because of the current all time high oil price, it will soon rise to a record high 7 $/gal !!! Get it, 7$/gal everywhere here !? And our salaries aren't so high anyway compared to American salaries but still quite high compared to many other countries.

My message to the Americans is to stop bitching and get back to the real world and stop wasting oil ! You've been pampered too long already with ridiculously low gas prices. No compassion here, I wish the gas price will stay high and you really need to think twice before buying those 10 miles a gallon SUVs and other mindless vehicles.

I just had to reply to this thread. Nothing personal here.

EDIT: looked up the internet, highest price in Finland now is 7.15$/gal ! Sheesh... Luckily I don't need gas because I don't own a car. Reason above.

Marissa,

You must be the same as Ben Affleck :D

I only live about 10 minutes from the pool room, so my playing habits probably won't change much.

I know it took over $6.00 to fill my lawn mower can yesterday. Not too long ago, that would last me a week in my car

Up Again.

Ten Cents a Gallon over Night Price JUMP.....

Im not really worried so much about the price of gas as I am about the shortage. I know people elsewhere were already paying a lot more than I am here in florida. I think it would just suck not having any gas available. It reminds me of last year when you all you saw was plastic covers on the nozzles. It wasnt so bad last year because I lived closer to work but now I live farther away. Its not going to stop me from playing pool because right now pool is the only thing that is getting my mind off all this chaos. We have the New Orleans disaster on tv 24hrs a day at work and its starting to get a little depressing. I work for the electric company here in florida so things like this are always a big concern to us. Pool really is my only escape.

20 mins to walk or 10 mins to bike. only thing going to stop me from going to the pool hall is if theres a few feet of snow on the ground, and maybe then i would walk.

Nothing wrong with the Disney classics :p

The titles I'm looking for in particular are Escape to Witch Mountain, Return to Witch Mountain, Night Crossing, Flight of the Navigator, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Babes in Toyland, and Swiss Family Robinson.

FOCUS: There's some places in town where it's over $3, but I saw one gas station that had it at $2.78.

Something to think about....

Think we the People are at the Mercy of the Gas Companies, but I for one will deal with the High Price of Gas by driving more conservatively, and making fewer trips.

I personally would rather do this, driving more conservatively, and making fewer trips.

Than TRADE Places with the poor People in Mississippi, and Louisiana who live pots Katrina will never be the same as before Katrina...

I think I saw "Babes in Toyland" in the porn section at my local store........
No, wait. That was "Hot Babes in 'Sex Toy' Land".

Gas up in PHX 15 Cent/Gallon from 0600 this a.m. This is total BULLSHIT, as our Gas don't come from the South East...........

I don't play pool so that's not going to be affected. But... I'm a speed demon... there's lead in my foot & it drives me nuts! Up until the price went up to $3+ a gal, I didn't change my driving habits. Now I put it on cruise control. It's the only way I can drive so slow. I'm going 4 mph over the limit and being passed like I'm sitting still. I hit rock bottom this morning on my way to work when I was passed by a double wide trailer being hauled on a flat bed with one of those cars behind it with the wide load sign... I was passed by that?!?!?!? I drive 45 miles one way to work... 100 miles a day and on a normal week, I might get passed twice during the course of the week but now I can hardly afford to go the speed limit!

lmfao flight of the navigator was my fav movie as a kid oink oink fatso to many twinkies lol.

I drive a little Civic that gets about 30 + mpg. I'm sure there's going to be a glut in the market for SUV's and other gas guzzlers.

Near Phoenix Gas has Stabalized @ 2.19/Gal. For Regular..... :D
