The Gateway Amateur Tour (8-ball, sponsored by Viking Cues) is coming up and I was wondering how "good" the players are in an amateur tournaments and tours. I can run a rack maybe every seventh or eighth rack when I'm on an 8 footer. Is this good enough to at least win a few games or should I just keep practicing? Also, are there age restrictions?

I think the best way to improve is to play with better players.
In any case give it a try unless it's to expensive!
Good luck!

They're very very good

They're very very good. You'll lose for sure, but it's all about learning!

These tourny's are very strong.... players can and will get out!

Regardless bud.... who cares.... play in as many as you can... can't do anything but help you!

Hey Travis,I am the tournament director for the Viking Gateway Amatuer 8 Ball Tour.It does not matter what your skill level as we handicap our tournaments based on skill level. Our next event is at Radars Sports Bar in St.Peters,Mo. on Saturday June 20th.It is a qualifier and is only a 20.00 entry fee, race to your handicap.PM me what players you play even with in your area, then I can get your hcp.Make sure they play in our 8 ball league because I figure in the handicaps for our league. Most of the responses to this post was based on players opinions of the Viking 9 Ball Tour, their players are a lot stronger than ours because it is a national tour and our tour is handicapped.Hope I answered your questions.

okay, I looked into it and since st. peters is pretty far away, would it be possible for me to qualify at baxter's and start from there? I've got a friend interested too...

Absolutely,Travis we also have tournaments in Centralia,Illinois at Shooters sports bar.You can start out at a qualifier or a tour stop. Thanks for your interest.
