After a few weeks scouring Craiglist I bought a 9ft Gold Crown 1 for $900. The table was apart but is clearly in great shape. Formica wasnt dented and it apears to have been reclothed/taken down maybe 3 time in its entire life by the small amount of staples holes and fresh screw holes in the bed left when you rescrew down the slate. It is missing the apron and the guy I bought it from planned to buy replacements without finding anything. The person he bought from had replaced the original with some home made with particle board coverd nogahide. My searches on this table I discovered it was common for GC1 to have damaged aprons (Fiberglass?). The legs dont adjust, aluminum corner without ash trays. The underside of the rails have the figure 8 style backing plate another sign it is an early model. Rails are stenciled with MOD AR CSV and where the part it is located. The crazy thing is the head rail doesnt have a Brunswick Nameplate in the formica. My understanding is they came wth plastic ones and were broken because I see people wanting replacements. Search results tell me it should have a plate if it is really a Gold Crown. Is that true? I also started to read that AMF made GC Brunswick knock offs without nameplates. The ball rack does have a Brunswick lable but thats the only thing I can find. The legs are pained white and made of real wood. The slate is pinned and in good shape. He stored it vertically to prevent warping.
Sorry for the long post but can someone tell me if I can be sure it is a Gold Crown without that nameplate?
And also can I get replacement aprons? Could an apron from a 2 or 3 fit/adapted with a little work?
Thanks
Mike
