Can anyone tell me the difference between a GC3 and GC4? I sold my GC4 when we moved, and I'm now looking for another one, then a GC3 popped up and I can't tell the difference.

By the way, this came about when my wife and I were tiling our living room this weekend. I was counting courses to make sure we had enough tile, when I realized the room was 14 feet wide by 21 feet long *BING*...........So I said, hey honey, how bout we make the living room a pool room, and use the spare bedroom as a living room?....she said.......maybe....which means she wants something in return! :)....I guess I'll find out what she wants pretty soon.....Gerry

Look under the table, Gerry. A gazillion adjustment screws on the 4 as opposed to the 3, for one thing.

Other than the new levelling system the most obvious cosmetic difference is the pockets are designed to mount flush to the top of the pocket castings on the GV IV. Unfortunately the pocket castings still sit a little above the rail itself, but they seem less raised than on a GC III or earlier.

GC IVs come the have a matte finish option for the rails, not sure if this was an option on the IIIs or earlier, all the ones I've ever seen were gloss. IMHO the matte finish is less attractive than the gloss but it makes much more sense as it does not pick up grease from hands like a gloss finish does.

A common complaint about the IIIs is breakdown of the rail rubber over time. Not sure if IVs use a different type of rubber or not, but if you are buying a used GC III you may want to ensure you have enough in your budget to replace it if needs be. Ideally if you can take whichever table mechanic in your area you are intending to have move and recover the table to inspect it prior to purchase.

I remember the adjustment screws on my GC4. I set that table up myself in about 6 hours, but the rails were already covered. I thought everything worked perfectly when putting it together. It was one of the ones from the US open so it was'nt used too much. Thanks for the info guys.....Gerry
