GC3 stain color

Brunswick used either a solid or semi solid stain on the GCII-GCVI with a clear top coat. You will most definitely have to play around with the color as I do not think there is any information out there as to what brand/stain Brunswick used. Are you refinishing all the aprons and the pedestal or trying to touch up?

hopeing to just touch up. they really are not that bad. I'm sure I'll want to do a couple fresh coats of poly

How about painting a solid color like the 1’s? A few members did that to later tables. It looks better (subjective I know) and no worries about matching.

My wife is into crafts and does alot of staining/painting etc with wooden furniture etc. She stained our oak stairs and put on a couple coats of varathane and they look like Mahogany and look fantastic. The builder made our vanity cabinets(pine) and they look awesome as well. She uses quite a few different stains and the Fusion Mineral Oils. She practices on the type of wood she'll be doing to get the result before doing the actual item.

I’d be one to turn it into a GC I clone and just paint it. Tangerine dream with Tournament Blue Simonis. Get that 1961 theme going. Poplar is not really a great staining wood anyway.

Best touch up stain is a gel stain. Need it darker put a little more on, lighter rub some off. That won't solve your tone issue though. I can match most any common shade of furniture with the 6 or so gel stain I have in my shop. If not it would be simple for me to just get one more can. 6 or so stains and various amounts of ea, it's pretty easy to do after you've done it a few times. Gel stains are about all I'll ever use.
