Sad to hear the pool world "Secret Society" not only lost Freddie the Beard but also just recently a legend in my eyes growing up in the little thuggish town of Racine Wi George "The Polish Prince" Pawelski. To me it is sad to see an era move to the big pool table in the sky, especially when they made an impact on me during my lifetime. I was about 15 years old or so and would go into a room called Fast Eddies. Every once in awhile George would come in to say hello. I will never forget the first time he saw me playing on table #1 and picked up my custom Sailor cue. George set up a shot and speared it in making the q ball travel with reverse english around the table in a way that made you feel he was putting on his pants in the morning. He then sat back down and picked up his hand of cribbage. NO BIG DEAL but to me it was an earth shattering moment in my life! i will leave it like this- George was a character, a legend, and a true professional at his craft. George will be missed and I am sure everyone at Romines High Pockets in Milwaukee Wi feels the same. George, say hi to Mike for me and tell him to keep the first tee open. if you knew George please respond with your own personal story. thanks

I unfortunately never got to see George complete in his prime. I did get to see him screwing around by himself about 15 years ago at Romines. The amount of spin he could put on the ball and still control whitey was amazing. He was one of the last from a great era in WI pool history.
 
I posted in the other referenced thread. Just wanted to add here that I too got my start more or less by going to Fast Eddie's in Racine when I was about 19 or so, met George, Ron Purtitt (sp?), Geno, and other decent players. Also had the pleasure of getting to know George pretty well and playing not only pool but 3 cushion and golf with him.

Great guy, great player, will definitely be missed.
