Gerda v/s Earl ?

You must have been sitting next to me on my right. Earl never made a ball on the break. I don't think he really likes 8-ball. He kept saying, "this game is too easy." One thing for sure about Earl, he sure does not care about being Politically Correct. He is from the old school, he says what he thinks and damn the consequences. People now-a-days are too soft skinned and get oooofffffffended if you use the wrong inflection in your voice let alone what you say.

I couldn't agree with this more, except I think I'll add to it a bit. If Earl was talking about another male player not having game would it even be an issue? Someone talked to me that way, I'd say "lets play some sets and find out." I don't think I'd be complaining about it on my personal website.. LOL The only reason she's really offended by it, is becuase deep down she probably assumes there's some truth to it. Winning the set is just karmic justice.. You tempt fate and you'll get embarassed, and that's what happened to Earl.

Ultimately though, I'd bet everything I own on Earl killing that chick if they played again.. Anyone can take a set off anyone if they can run a rack or two. She's an A no doubt about it, but she's not anywhere near that guys league in my (most likely will be called uninformed) opinion.

...that one guy...

tennis - John Macenro(sp?)
poker - Phil Helmuth
pool - EARL STRICTLAND

Without a doubt, sports need the "bad guys" who some people hate, and some people love, but most people love to hate. That doesn't mean what they're doing is right, but it's generally good for the sport, because when they act out or say something intensely cocky or self-centered, it's an incident to write a story about, and no publicity is bad publicity (unless you're a politician). To name a few you didn't mention:

NBA - Ron Artest
NFL - Terrell Owens
MLB - John Rocker
NASCAR - Tony Stewart
Chess - Garry Kasparov (okay, he's famous for being the best in the world, but he's also a total ass)
Drivelous reality TV - Simon Cowell
White-collar crime - Martha Stewart
Holding high-ranking political office while secretly being a serial killer - Dick Cheney
Hating the United States due to our loose moral values and quasi-imperialist ethnocentric hubris - Osama Bin Laden
etc.

The media loves a brat. America loves to hate the brat, and therefore loves to watch the brat. If pool became part of the mainstream sports media, Earl Strickland would be an instant celebrity.

im a fan of earls play but thats about it.......evidently the man has to get fired up in some way to get his best game out (or try to) and unfortunately it usually involves abusing someone in some way. Personally if i was good enough to be in the tour and had earl woofing at me id be smiling and egging him on, knowing that the more upset he gets the better the chances are it will end up affecting his game instead of mine. It sure didnt help him against gerda lol.....you go gurl

Scott, That could backfire. I've seen him behind in a match, and go off on someone on the sidelines, get all fired up, and then come back and win a match. I think he actually plays better when he is pi$$ed off!
