Here I am again, some twenty five years later, again looking for a ride to the casino where the January tournament is being held in Indiana. I could go alone, but I'm not up to it. I'd like to find a couple of friends to go with me, and I may have it. We won't be able to stay for the duration, because they work, but I'm thinking maybe I could stay on. I haven't seen any of my pool playing friends in many years, but now that I'm FREE, I'm guessing it would be a good time.
I didn't imagine that I would still be interested in the whole scene while I was raising my children, but there it is! Some things never change, like what really makes you happy when all the bullshit is swept aside.
I used to play for Mocks's Fun Casino (we loved that ridiculous name!) over in Stone Park, Illinois. During those years, I got to know quite a few players that would sweep through town trying to make a buck. And I would occasionally arrange dates between the players I knew and some of the other girls who frequented the joint. I'd also set up action between local players and a friend of mine, Jeff, who would come in from Beloit occasionally.
I think I'm going to use this blog to chronicle some of the players I met and some of the crazy incidents that occurred during my life. Or maybe not -- maybe this should be reserved for serious lovers of the game, and frankly, I loved more, the action! Just like my daddy, who taught me to play craps when I was a baby. My grandpa taught me to play chess when I was two, so those two things, craps and chess, may have led to my love of the pool world-who knows.
